John Deeney


John was called to the Bar in 1976. John was the Deputy Registrar of Titles in the Property Registration Authority (“the PRA”) from 2004 to 2012. Prior to this, John held a number of senior positions in the PRA including Chief Examiner of Titles and Ground Rents Arbitrator. John played an active role in the development and implementation of the Land & Conveyancing Law Reform Act, 2009.

John has tutored and lectured on registration matters for many years. He is a national expert in the area of first registration of title and lectures on the topic in the Law Society of Ireland. He contributed a chapter on the first registration process to the Law Society of Ireland publication ‘Complex Conveyancing’.

John has also published articles in the Law Society Gazette on matters such as the registration of prescriptive easements and profits, the electronic Land Registry map and registered boundaries. He is familiar with the acquisition of land and registration of interests such as rights of way, replanting orders and afforestation conditions under Forestry and Wildlife Acts 1946 – 1976 and the Wildlife Act 1976.
