Corporate Social Responsibility

We strive to combine the provision of a high quality legal service to our clients with a rewarding working environment, as well as an awareness of the wider community around us.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy is based on our firm’s pro bono work, volunteering, charitable activities, our environmental responsibility and our employees.

Fieldfisher works in partnership with the Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA), a professional referral scheme, which matches our legal skills to specific legal assistance requirements from non-governmental organisations, law centres and community organisations. We recently prepared a research report in partnership with PILA concerning the law in relation to the Energy Efficiency of Rental Accommodation in Ireland for use by St. Vincent de Paul.

Our Solicitors also participate in the Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC), an independent human rights organisation dedicated to the realisation of equal access to justice for all.

A number of our trainee solicitors also participate in Street Law, an initiative run by the Law Society of Ireland, designed to teach students from disadvantaged schools about law in a practical way, while also developing the skills of trainee solicitors.

Additionally, the firm has also recently provided pro bono advice to the Bar Council Scheme and Value Added in Africa.

Fieldfisher is committed to making a positive contribution to the Dublin Community and supports a large number of local, as well as international charities. Charitable giving and volunteering is embedded in the culture at Fieldfisher. Our employees are making a difference through volunteering in local schools and education services, sporting endeavours and participating in-house fundraising activities.

Some of our most recent fundraising and charitable activities include:

  • Supporting Focus Ireland: The staff at Fieldfisher Ireland took part in a series of events in September 2017 raising €7,500 of vital funds for Focus Ireland. Fundraising activities included a 9 hour Spin-a-thon, a coffee morning and the ‘MDPeaks Challenge’, which involved over 60 members of staff undertaking a 14km trek in the Wicklow Mountains.
  • Supporting the Calcutta Run: On an annual basis the staff at Fieldfisher Ireland participate in the Calcutta Run and Cycle, and the firm holds a number of fundraising events including a table quiz and breakfast, to raise vital funds for the Peter McVerry Trust, and the Hope Foundation.
  • Supporting the Run in the Dark: Each year a large number of our staff take part in the Run in the Dark in aid of the Mark Pollock Trust.
  • St Vincent de Paul Giving Tree: Every Christmas the staff at Fieldfisher Ireland take part in SVP’s Annual Appeal.
  • Annually the Firm undertakes a number of fundraising coffee mornings, bake sales and collections on behalf of the Cancer Society, Temple Street Children’s Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul and Barnardos.

We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously. We are committed to making a difference by integrating best environmental practice into all of our business activities in order to minimise our environmental footprint.

We work to ensure that we:

  • Conduct our activities in full knowledge of, and in compliance, with Environmental Regulations
  • Establish environmental awareness
  • Commit to improve environmental performance amongst our people and suppliers
  • Minimise consumption of natural resources and wastage

Fieldfisher implements the following green initiatives:

  • The provision of separate recycling bins and shredding bins
  • Recycling of our used computers
  • Recycling of used computer toners
  • Encouraging everyone to turn off all lights, computers and photocopiers
  • Actively participating in the Cycle to Work campaign
  • Donating our old mobile phones to the Jack and Jill Foundation

Fieldfisher is committed to creating an environment in which our staff can achieve their full potential. Our people are Fieldfisher’s most important asset and we recognise that in order for us to succeed we need to both attract and retain talented people who enjoy their work and wholeheartedly adopt our friendly, professional, results-driven culture.

Fieldfisher has adopted a number of initiatives within the workplace in relation to our employees:

  • Staff Development and Training: We provide internal and external training and learning support to each individual.
  • Staff Health and Wellbeing: We provide a number of wellness initiatives to encourage staff to lead healthier lives including paid fitness classes, fresh fruit onsite and paid medical benefits.
  • Staff involvement at all levels: Staff are involved in the improvement of services within the firm whether it be through, for example, the development of our IT services or the expansion of our knowledge base.
  • An open plan layout: Everyone sits in open plan, including the Partners. This provides an inclusive environment and encourages open communication throughout the firm.

Diversity and inclusion are a critical component of our larger corporate responsibility strategy. Fieldfisher is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can succeed in achieving his or her personal and professional goals. We believe the varied backgrounds and the combined talent of each of our employees fully enriches our business. We recruit and reward all our staff, both legal and administrative, based on capability and performance, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, or physical ability.
